Bad Kissingen - UNESCO World Heritage “The most important spa towns in Europe”
The most famous spa town in Germany is located on the picturesque Franconian Saale, south of the Rhön in Bavaria, and looks back on a history rich in tradition. Personalities such as Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary, known as “Sisi”, and Prince Otto von Bismarck appreciated the spa's healing springs and social events equally.
Magnificent buildings in baroque architecture
Today, the Bavarian state spa with its almost Mediterranean character is a modern wellness and health resort with renowned hotels and wellness facilities. In summer 2021, Bad Kissingen was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site “The most important spa towns in Europe” along with ten other European spa towns. The historic spa town embodies the phenomenon of the European spa in a special way. Bad Kissingen is still a world-famous health resort for body, mind and soul. The town's image is characterized above all by its magnificent parks and magnificent historical buildings. The spa garden with its Wandelhalle, arcade building and Regentenbau and the Bavarian Casino with its spectacular mix of baroque and modern architecture stand out.
Rose garden with beguiling scents
The new multimedia fountain in the rose garden is absolutely unique in Germany. Magical musical water choreographies can be experienced here every day, in which the water fountains dance to a wide variety of pieces of music. A special highligt are the pro projector shows: After dark, atmospheric images and videos are projected onto a screen made of millions of water droplets.
Salt was mined in Bad Kissingen for more than 1000 years, most recently until 1968. The first graduation tower was built here in 1562, making Bad Kissingen the oldest graduation tower in Europe. The graduation tower building still bears witness to this today.
